Yes--You Can Still Be Your Healthiest Self at Home

When working, resting, and doing pretty much everything at home, carving out time to be healthy is sometimes the last thing on your mind. There are shows to binge, pets to feed, kids to keep busy, and work to get done. But, it’s more important than ever to keep moving and sustain healthy eating habits. Here are some simple ways to incorporate wellness into your life at home.

Set reminders on your phone.

When you’ve gotten comfortable on the couch with your blankets and a good show playing, it can be a while before you realize just how long you’ve been lounging. Setting an alarm to get up and moving is a great way to keep healthy habits top of mind.

Try new healthy recipes.

Do you have a Pinterest board full of nutritious recipes that you’ve been eyeing to make for weeks, months, maybe even years? Now is the time to try your hand at all of these saved recipes. Who knows, you might just whip up a new family classic.

Take advantage of at-home workouts.

For those with Amazon Prime and on-demand access, there are hundreds of workouts available right at your fingertips. While some require equipment like weights, resistance bands, or a yoga mat, there are many options that don’t. Programs like the Peloton App, Openfit, Daily Burn, Obé fitness, and Barre3 also offer subscriptions that suit any type of workout regimen.

Dance it out.

While this option sounds most acceptable for those with little ones, who says you can’t put on your favorite feel-good playlist and get to moving on your own? This will get your step-count and heart rate up, often resulting in a much-needed sweat session.

Work out your glutes.

Not used to sitting for such a prolonged period of time? Make sure to work out your glute muscles throughout the day. Here’s a quick 10-minute workout for just that.

Eat at your normally scheduled times.

Try to stick to the same schedule you follow when you’re working in the office. Take breaks when you would normally take them, eat at the same times, and snack as you typically would. Reaching for the second, third, and ultimately, tenth, helping of your guilty pleasure sweet or salty snack may feel good in the moment, but will only lead to unhealthy habits down the line.

Clean the house.

Yes, cleaning burns calories. Here’s a spring declutter challenge complete with a helpful printable that will get your home spiffy in just seven days. Or if you’re feeling especially ambitious, tackle it all in one day.
