Where is it?
The annual Fire & Ice Winterfest event is coming up on its thirteenth year! The Winterfest is held the first weekend of February each year. The events take place in Lava Springs Idaho, a small town that attracts the masses with its character and resorts.
Events
Each day at Winterfest is packed with unique activities that can be participated in by both locals and tourists.
Friday
The first day includes nine hours worth of activities. The day begins with the kids race that challenges young kids to compete in a three-course obstacle to attain a sweet prize at the finish line. After the race, you can gather around in Lava Springs City Park for snow sledding and tubing for the entire family to enjoy. Warm up from the cold snow with a wine tasting at the Riverside Inn. End the night with a laugh and maybe some prizes. The community center will be hosting a bingo and comedy night that will have you winding down and prepping for Saturday’s events!
Saturday
Start out the morning at the indoor aquatic center for relays and diving contests. Then, if you are feeling up for a challenge, give the polar float parade a shot and float down the frigid Portneuf River in a crazy costume. Warm yourself back up with the chili tasting at the Lava Community Building. Around dusk, relax and watch the sky light up on L Mountain with the Torch Light Parade where skiers hit the slopes holding torches. This is a unique experience that you can’t get anywhere else. The show will continue on with the Lava Flow Fire performers entertaining the crowd with dance, acrobatics, and fire, of course. Finish off the night by hitting the towns casino night where all ages are welcomed.
Sunday
Kick off your morning with the perfect breakfast by American Legion at the community center, then head down to the Portneuf River for the Rubber Penguin race. The last and final event will literally have you running down Main street. The running of the bull’s race has you running from pool to pool and race to the finish line!
This event welcomes locals and tourists alike to get active in their community, and most importantly have fun and experience everything Idaho has to offer!
